Overmono, an electronic music duo comprised of brothers Ed and Tom Russell, have made Dobermanns a significant part of their visual identity. These dogs, whose ears are uncropped, first appeared on the cover of their 2020 EP “Everything U Need” in a charming photograph and have since been featured in various playful and striking imagery on subsequent releases. They are also a key element in Overmono’s audiovisual live shows.
Instead of focusing on promoting their own faces, Ed and Tom have chosen to make these Dobermanns the face of their brand, associating their music with the dogs’ image. This unconventional approach has helped the duo stand out in the crowded electronic music scene.
For the campaign surrounding their debut album “Good Lies,” which blends pop and rave, Overmono added to the Dobermann lore. They collaborated with photographer and director Rollo Jackson, who created short films for three tracks where the Dobermanns are prominently featured.
The Dobermanns have become the symbolic heart of Overmono’s visual identity, representing the duo’s playful and approachable nature, contrary to the stereotypical image of techno as a hard and cold genre. This unique and absurd world of “Dobermono” has become a defining characteristic of the duo’s brand.
