The Great Poochini serves as the official mascot of Palm Beach Opera, aiming to introduce younger audiences to the world of opera. This character was inspired by Gary Clement’s picture book, “The Great Poochini,” which tells the story of a dog who leads a double life as a regular pet by day and a renowned opera singer by night.

Palm Beach Opera adopted The Great Poochini to engage children and make opera more accessible and entertaining for them. The mascot has been featured in various educational and community outreach events. For instance, in April 2006, The Great Poochini introduced a performance of “Cinderella” to a group of elementary school students in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, helping to create an interactive and enjoyable experience for young attendees.

Additionally, The Great Poochini has appeared at public events to promote the opera. In December 2006, the mascot entertained crowds with Christmas songs and interacted with children at the fountain area in CityPlace, downtown West Palm Beach, further enhancing the festive atmosphere and raising awareness about opera in the community.

Through The Great Poochini, Palm Beach Opera endeavors to foster a love for opera among children, making the art form approachable and enjoyable for the next generation.
